India is a land of multiversities regarding environment, culture, and civilization. Millions of tourists come to see the Taj Mahal, Jaipur, and Kerala every year; however, there are millions of such unknown destinations all over India that are equally gorgeous and touching. Located behind the crowds of tourist hotspots, these treasuries of India hide the promise of seclusion and authenticity that travel today seeks. If you are a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or a believer in the purest forms of bliss, then many lesser-known locations in India may satisfy your needs. Here are a few hidden gems:

1. Ziro Valley, Arunachal Pradesh

The Ziro Valley is heaven for nature lovers – a paradise amid the northeastern province of Arunachal Pradesh. It finds itself surrounded by a sea of green foliage, and rice paddies as well as towering pine forests. The Apatani tribe, with their distinct customs and culture, thrives in this valley. The vistas of Ziro lend themselves to trekking bird watching and nature photography.

Ziro Music Festival: Featuring music connoisseurs from all over the world, this is one of the major attractions of Ziro Valley. This four-day open-air event features both domestic and foreign performers amidst a setting that fuses music with nature. Even with all that is getting trendy about it, Ziro remains an unusual place for travelers to discover the unspoiled beauty of the Northeast.

2. Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh

Spiti Valley, which is in the Trans-Himalayan region, is often forgotten to be in the background shadow of its more famous cousin Ladakh. However, Spiti, too, is no less ravishingly elegant and austere, with barren landscape, old monasteries, and crystal-clear rivers. Due to its high altitude and harsh weather, this remote valley is accessible only for a few months in a year.

Spectators can go to the ancient 1,000-year-old Buddhist Monastery perched on a hill or the world’s highest post office at Hikkim. Trekking, mountaineering, and camping under the stars are appropriate for the valley. Its rocky beauty and peaceful environment make it most suitable for people who need isolation and a spiritual connection with nature.

3. Gurez Valley, Jammu & Kashmir

Probably, the stunning views of Kashmir will not help you forget the hidden gem – Gurez Valley. Nestled in this beautiful valley, along the Line of Control, is this gorgeous valley. It goes on running along the snow-capped mountains, flowing rivers, and meadows full of wildflowers. There is an air of silence wherever you may be because of the peaceful flow of the Kishanganga River passing through it.

What sets Gurez apart is its relatively limited exposure to mainstream tourism. Now, it offers travelers a chance to experience the true pulse of the culture and lifestyle of the people. The valley is also home to the Dard-Shina tribe, which has maintained the culture for several centuries. For those who would like to avoid the overcrowded hill stations and, for those who would love to witness the pristine beauty of Kashmir, the Gurez Valley is a gem in the circuit.

4. Chettinad, Tamil Nadu

One of the lesser-known regions in the southern state of Tamil Nadu is Chettinad. Known for its different forms of architecture and long food traditions, the district was once the abode of great traders; it is now inhabited by majestic mansions with fine work in wood, beautiful tiles, and wide courtyards. Such grand homes unveil the wealth and artistry of the Chettiar community.

Chettinad is popular not just for its architectural grandeur, but also for its food. The food is laden with flavors, extra spicy, and unique, and their chicken dishes, kozhi curry, and kuzhi paniyaram are to be relished.

Along with these, one must visit nearby temples such as Athangudi Palace, and the Brihadeeswarar Temple of Thanjavur, a 1,000-year-old temple. Chettinad is a hidden gem worth discovering, offering the perfect blend of culture, history, and cuisine.

5. Majuli, Assam

Majuli is the world’s largest river island, concealed in Assam and perched atop the vast Brahmaputra River. This place has a serene landscape, rich cultural symbols, and a spiritual appeal that makes it distinct in all possible senses, allowing tourists to experience traditional rural life in Assam.

The island is home to several Satras, monasteries that remain pivotal in preserving the regional indigenous dance form, music, and religious rituals. One of Majuli’s most well-known festivals is the Raas which is a vibrant performance and ritual-filled celebration of life lived by Lord Krishna.

Majuli is an unspoiled beauty, full of lush paddy fields, little towns, and serene riverbanks-sounds like an excellent getaway for someone into tranquility. And then, of course, bird watchers can spot a variety of migrating birds that keep the island company during winter.

6. Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh

Tirthan Valley stands out as pristine amidst already bustling hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. This valley, not very far from the Great Himalayan National Park, is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, serving up breathtaking views, crystal-clear rivers, and lush green woods. It is named after the river, an excellent trout fishing resort, with several trekking trails for all adrenaline enthusiasts.

The Tirthan Valley is highly recommended to the nature lover, where one can trek and camp around to reach some falls. Gushaini is a small set of valleys, which is a homely retreat for lonely travelers seeking solitude for reconnecting with the world of nature.
